Mark Olchanyi, M.Eng.

Graduate Student

I studied biomedical engineering as an undergraduate and master's student at Imperial College London. I am currently a PhD student at the Harvard-MIT Medical Engineering and Medical Physics (MEMP) program, where I am co-mentored by Dr. Brian Edlow here at NICC, Dr. Juan Eugenio Iglesias at the MGH Martinos Center, and Dr. Emery Brown at MIT. My love for neuroscience, mathematics, and computer science led me to pursue research which involves studying brainstem-affiliated neural networks that are critical to both maintenance and recovery of consciousness in patients with traumatic brain injury. I am currently developing statistically driven computational methods which aim to delineate and parameterize these networks in an automated fashion from in-vivo High Angular Resolution Diffusion Imaging (HARDI) data. In my free time, I enjoy skiing (when there is snow!), tennis (when there is no snow!), and trying out every bubble tea place in Boston.
